In recent years, the government and non-government organizations have poured financial supports to assist Indigenous Peoples in developing trial industries. In the past, traditional handicrafts were developed for daily uses, especial ceremonial ones. Nowadays, tribal handicrafts not only carry and transmit cultural traditions but also constitute cultural creative industry by transforming indigenous knowledge into knowledge economy. This article records the operation of a banana weaving workshop at Kavalan tribe in Halien and illustrates how traditional handicrafts are related to the nourishment of Indigenous cultural industries. |
