Since it is known that the meridians of the body correspond to no known morphological entity, they can only exist as functions. We established the hypothesis that their existence might be found in the resonance between the tissues lying on their trajectory and the harmonics of the heartbeat. At 72 heartbeats per minute、the heart's first harmonic is 1.2 Hz、the second harmonic is 2.4 Hz, the third harmonic is 3.6Hz, and the fourth harmonic is 4.8 Hz etc. In trems of hemodynamics, every organ's blood flow resistance to different low-frequency pulses is different. Each organ resonates with a different harmonic of the heart. For example、the kidney resonates with the second harmonic (2.4Hz ), while the lung resonates with the fourth harmonic (4.8Hz). When each organ resonates at the right rate, the pushing force is proportional to the amplitude of the harmonics (Cn) that is the resonant frequency of the organ, blood flows freely into it, and hence it functions properly. According to this assertion, qi is the resonance of tissues with the heartbeat.” Qi is the commander of the blood; when qi moves, the amount of blood that flows into the organ will be proportional to the amplitude of the resonant barmonic.” The better the resonance, the lower the blood flow resistance, the greater the supply of blood, and the better the cell metabolism is. If this assert ion is correct, each meridian is a channel opera tin g on a specific frequency (or frequencies) identical to that of its associated organ. Acupuncture would thus be a method of adjusting resonance in which Chinese medicine traditionally speaks, are to be seen in terms of energy transfer rather than actual input and release. In order to prove this hypothesis, we needled Zusanli ST36 (foot yang-ming stomach meridian) and then compared the changes in the pulse spectrum. We found that the amplitude of the ninth, eighth, sixth, and fifth (C9, C8, C6, C5) harmonics rose, and that that of the fourth and second (C4, C2) harmonics fell. These preliminary findings show that energy is redistributed in the channel, and that this redistribution is intimately related to the Zusanli's traditionally stated functions of freeing the channels and connecting vessels, harmonizing qi and blood, and rectifying the spleen and fortifying the stomach. |
