Internationally, the modem approach to research and application of Sports Medicine is both profound and far-reaching. The disciplines involved inc1ude cardiovascular and pulmonary functions, diabetes, orthopedics, physiology, kinesiology, behavioral sciences and their interactions. An in depth examination of the investigative efforts in sports medicine within The Republic of China is in order. On the other hand, an intimate relationship exists between injury treatments within the framework of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Western approach to sports related injury managements. According to some surveys, many patients who have sustained sports related injury still prefer the traditional Chinese therapeutic approach. Even though the practice of traditional medicine in China had a long history, the authors feel certain improvements can still be implemented in the field in The Republic of China. 1. Greater efforts are needed to promote scientifically sound concepts in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of sports related injuries. 2. Medically unsound therapeutic methods should be patiently examined and weeded out from Traditional Chinese Medical Practice so that sports related injuries can be effectively managed. 3. The abandonment of the attitude that all Traditional Chinese Medical therapeutic methods are medically unsound and therefore should be ignored. Instead, an objective and careful attitude should be adopted to examine and evaluate the wealth of experience that has accumulated during the long practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine. |
