In the previous report, the origin of ”Hǔ-ěr-căo” in Taiwan market is derived from the entire plant or aerial part of Saxifraga stolonifera M(subscript EERB), and the leaves and stems of Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) B(subscript ENTH). In vitro study on the antibacterial activity including common 14 species bacteria of acute otitis externa and chronic otitis media, show that P. cablin had inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis and Bacillus subtilis, etc. In the present paper, an experimental animal model on otitis externa induced by water and S. aureus was made to examine these two plants medicinal effect. The results show that P. cablin has been proved to be effective in the treatment of acute diffuse otitis externa induced by S. aureus on animal model. |
