Qi has been a commonly used term throughout the history of Chinese medicine. A logical place to begin the study of its different usages and meanings is the Nin-Jing, from which Chinese medical tradition started. A computer search through a number-coded text of the Nei-Jing reveals a total of 2, 991 occurrences of the term Qi and an incidence of 1.95%. 1t also shows that Qi occurs in 441 different compounds that include words denoting phenomena such as heaven, earth, man, ying- yang (陰陽). and the five elements (五行), etc. The present index of terms containing the character Qi enables all the uses of Qi in the Nei-Jing to be traced to their context in the number-coded text. |
