This article addressed nursing experiences of caring for an oral cancer patient with malignant fungating wounds. The duration of nursing care was from November 5th to November 14th, 2012. Data was collected by using observation, interview, physical assessment, and direct patient care, etc. The main health issues that needed to be attended to in this case were pain, impaired tissue integrity, and body image disturbance. During the nursing period, we practiced cancer-wound nursing and pain-relieving skills, and aimed to provide a comfortable nursing experience and individualized care, maintain a clean and tidy appearance, prevent social withdrawal and isolation, and facilitate restoration of normal living condition and life quality. We expect that the sharing of these nursing experiences will help nursing staff provide better care for oral cancer patients in terms of their physical, psychological, spiritual, and social needs. |
