In 2007, the noise appeal cases reached more than 42,000 in Taiwan. The phenomenon indicated that a quiet living environment is the imperious demand for people. The current regulation of sound insulation for internal wall in Taiwan’s Building Code is based on the thickness, instead of its actual performance. The purpose of the paper aimed to investigate the performance of sound insulation of internal wall and to analyze the reasonable revision of building code for sound transmission control in Taiwan. The sound transmission loss for different types of building elements was measured and tested, including traditional 1/2B red brick, calcium silicate board, gypsum board, fiber concrete board, and reinforced frame wall. The experiment results showed that the difference of the airborne sound transmission of these wall specimens exceeded 5dB, from 44 dB to 52 dB. Most of the sound insulation performances cannot meet the basic requirements of major housing sound insulation regulations in the world. The outcome can be one of the suggestions for improving the current Taiwan Building Code for sound insulation of internal walls, in order to enhance the sound environment quality. |
