After investigation and comparison of the present environment with the fire fighting and safety diagram planned by the department stores, it is found that the fire fighting job is largely carried out using the peripheral roads and space around the department stores. Hence, it is necessary to establish a fire fighting zone. The space is mainly used by the aerial ladder truck (35.39%), the pumper (23.60%) and the ambulance (16.85%). It is proposed that space for one aerial ladder track, two pumpers and one ambulance should be kept, i.e. a total space of 227 m2 should be reserved. The maximum length of the aerial ladder truck is 15 meters; therefore a space of 16x15 meters should be reserved so the efficiency of primary rescue will not be compromised. According to the research, 740 m2 is needed for the A-level rescue; 920 m2 for the B-level and 1100 m2 for the C-level rescue jobs. The maximum single roadside needed is 470 m2. Consequently, a minimum of 1100 m2 has to be reserved and the space on single roadside has to be larger than 470 m2. |
