Many countries have focused on the researches of augmented reality (AR) technology applying in urban and outdoor architecture guiding systems. However, only few of these researches are practicable in real outdoor environment. After analyses, we found that this situation is due to the obstacles of developing the outdoor registration technique in AR systems. Nowadays there are two major registration techniques called 'instrument registration technique' and 'image registration technique'. However the first technique is in high cost and low accuracy, while the later using registration pattern causes huge visual impacts in visual environment. Therefore, this research develops two AR outdoor guiding systems to overcome these obstacles, and uses 'Cultural heritage guiding system' and 'Invisible shop signboard' as demonstration examples. After assessments, it is approved that the techniques we created are not only with accurate image registration ability and low cost feature, but also with negligible visual impact for visual environment. |
