The purpose of this study is to develop a local eco-city evaluation index system, suitable for the Taiwan situation. The research methods used in this study are literature review, Fuzzy Delphi Method and Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchical Process applied to the case study of Taichung City. The eco-cities evaluation system developed through this study is divided into three main categories: “social progress”, “economic development” and “environmental protection”. These categories contain a total of 23 evaluation indicator items. These items are given different weights due to their relative importance. The highest weight is given to the item “eco-green network” of “environmental protection”; the next is the “per capita area of public open space” of “social progress”; the lowest weight is “resources recycling rate” of “economic development”. Based on the results of the evaluation, a future assessment system for the urban development strategies of the cities in Taiwan can be formulated. This will help orient Taiwan's sustainable urban development towards the production of healthy and complex eco-cities. Creating a balanced process of social, economic and environmental development is needed for the near future of Taichung City. |
