The aim of this research was to explore the experiences of patients undergoing general anesthesia in the operative period by a qualitative method. The research recruited 10 participants who met the criteria of the study by purposive sampling, and had been interviewed by use of a semi-structured outline over one year in a hospital in Taipei, Taiwan. Data were analyzed and four themes derived: (1) fear of operation; (2) emotional consolation before operation, (3) physiological feelings during the period of wakefulness after anesthesia; and (4) relief provided by supportive accompanying people. The results could be used to provide better support for patients under operation stage. |
