The Educational Meaning of Taking an Oath on the Sports Field

運動為人類生活重要部分，現代人透過自身從事或者觀賞各類運動競技而密切參與其中。然而，諸多現象顯示，運動本有的內在價值，在充盈利慾的現代世界中，已逐漸被其得以賺取金錢、名聲等的外在價值所淹沒，導致許多違反運動家精神的事件發生，因此運動的內在價值亟需再次予以重視。故本文的重點在於釐清運動場上宣誓的概念，重新賦予其運動倫理學上的實踐意義，藉由對於宣誓本身的重視，使宣誓者連帶地看重誓詞內容所強調的運動內在價值。最後並認為，運動宣誓作為人生中種種宣誓之一，如能以運動場上的宣誓為契機，清楚明瞭宣誓的倫理意義，則對於運動場外的人生亦將有積極的道德作用。

Sports play an important part in human life. Nowadays people are closely involved in all kinds of sports through their own participations or by watching games vicariously. However, many phenomena show that the intrinsic value of sports has gradually been overwhelmed in the acquisitive modern world by its extrinsic value of gaining money, reputation, etc. And the situation causes many violations of the sportsmanship. Therefore, the intrinsic value of sports is in urgent need of being taken seriously once again. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the concept of the oath on the sports field and to re-endow it with the significance of sports ethics in practice. Through valuing the oath itself, the man who takes the oath will regard as important the intrinsic value of sports emphasized by the content of the oath. Last but not least, if the oath on the sports field, one of the various oaths in life, can be taken as an opportunity to help people understand the ethical meaning of oath, then it will also effectively facilitate the moral life outside the sports field.
