Since the end of the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, Na Li has got out of the Whole Nation System for Athletics Sports in China and started her career as an independent professional tennis player. The main reason why she has been making great progress recently might lie in the total professionalization of her career as an independent professional tennis player. The way how she manages her career could very likely be followed by other Chinese tennis players and make them successful as well. The aim of this article is to make some reflections on the development of the professional tennis in Taiwan by probing into the value and influences of Na Li on the tennis development in China. After reviewing the related literature, the author presents four viewpoints: 1. Tennis should be professionalized; 2. The government should make virtuous reforms on the rewarding system; 3. Sponsors should be attracted to get involved in the sport; 4. Professional teamwork is necessary for the development of professional tennis. Hopefully, based on the issues raised by this article, more and more elite athletes and social resources, such as entrepreneurs, could participate in the development and popularization of tennis and have positive effects on the professionalization of tennis in Taiwan. |
