This study is part of a larger project which was carried out in a fibre factory. The present article is an exploratory analysis of the determinants and correlates of the job satisfaction of Chinese workers. The scale employed in this study is the Smith et al Job Descriptive Index. After putting the Index through item analysis and several tests (validity, reliability and independence), it was found that the Index is appropriate to administer to Chinese industrial workers. The results indicate that among nine personal factors, four of them (sex, age, educational level and opinion of family) are moderately related to job satisfaction. It was also found that among eight organizational factors, six of them (work types, position, company policy, organizational identification, feeling of leisure time, and tendency to leave) are strongly related to job satisfaction. |
