The major purpose of this study is to analyze the transition of the states’ role in contemporary globalization which began at the end of the 20th century. Furthemore, focus will be placed on the opportunities and challenges which states have faced in this era. These purposes are approached using a framework developed in accordance with statecentered theory. Particular focus is given to the relationships between contemporary globalization and the states’ role. In order to do this, basic definition of contemporary globalization and its challenges and opportunities is discussed. Furthermore, this issue of the nature of state power in the contemporary globalized world is discussed with consideration given to the importance of state power and state autonomy. Specifically, the author discusses how the states respond to contemporary globalization and what is the connection between state governance and global governance. The major finding of this research is that states can play transitional roles finding realistic directions. This can be achieved through searching good governance modes, presenting effective developmental strategies, responding to crisises with efficacy, maintaining social justice and focusing on improving infrastructure capacities. By doing this they will be able to develop and face the challenges presented by crisis due to contemporary globalization in the 21st century. |
