The study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior toward correct medication usage and to explore the relationship between the above variables among the students at a junior high school in New Taipei City. The study also predicted the correct medication use behavior by background variables, correct medication use knowledge and attitudes. The survey questionnaire was designed by the researcher and the data was collected via self-administration by the student respondents. Stratified cluster random sampling was used to select participants among the seventh to ninth graders. Students in twelve classes were selected, and a total of 394 questionnaires received and analyzed. The results showed that significant positive correlations existed among the correct medication use knowledge, attitudes, and behavior among the student respondents. Results indicated that when student respondents were more aware of the correct medication use knowledge and had more positive attitudes toward correct medication use, they would perform more correct medication use behavior. Background factors, correct medication use knowledge and attitudes could significantly predict correct medication use behavior among the student respondents, while also explaining 33.8% of the variance. Suggestions for school correct medication use education and future research were provided. It is recommended to enhance the proper medication use behavior among the adolescents and to explore the differences and trends of medication use knowledge, attitudes, and behavior among the adolescents of different ages. |
