The aim of this project was to improve the administration rate of nursing instruction for patients who underwent radical prostatectomy surgery by increasing patient recognition of the operation. In this project, we determined that the administration rate of nursing instruction was low, causing patient satisfaction and recognition to be low. Based on analysis, the reasons for the low administration rate were determined to be the follows: lack of surgical care practice guidelines, lack of care guide monitoring, lack of a care instruction sheet, lack of knowledge of teaching methods among nursing staff, and the teachings. Field observations, analysis, and literature review were conducted between September 2012 and March 2013 to implement improvement programs, including standard instruction establishment, operation monitoring, nursing instruction sheet creation, and service education provision for nurses. After completion of this project, the administration rate of nursing instruction increased from 55% to 94%, the recognition rate of surgical procedures increased from 58% to 96%, and the satisfaction rate of patients increased from 2.8 to 4.9 points. This project not only improved the quality of nursing instruction but also increased patient recognition and satisfaction. |
