The purpose of this study was to investigate the management of the loaner instruments and validation of decontamination of loaner instruments in Taiwan. A self-administered questionnaire was used to investigate the management decisions related to loaner instruments of operating room and central supply room managers in Taiwan. The test method involved using a bioluminescent reporter, luciferase, which is measured in relative light units (RLUs), for the validation process. The results of the study indicated that most of the hospitals lacked recognition of the management and reprocessing of loaner instruments and trays. RLUs were significantly lower after the machine decontamination process than before the machine decontamination process. The results of this study could be applied to improve the management and reprocessing process of loaner instruments, as well as provide a reference for administrators to develop policies and procedures for ensuring patient safety. |
