The photoprocessing industry produces small quantity of wastewater that has the chzaracterisitics of highly concentrated in contaminants and heavy metals. Thus, there are some difficulties on photoprocessing wastewater treatment by traditional wastewater treatment systems that are generally occupied more and land space and suitable for large amount of wastewater and not so concentrated in nature. The Electrical Coagulation system, on the other hand, has the advantages of small land requirement and short reaction time, and has been assessed by the USEPA as one of the new and promising wastewater treatment, and investigated the COD removal efficiency of the system by controlling the parameters of pH and hydraulic retention time (HRT). The results have revealed the electrical coagulation system has high efficiency at pH=2, and the increase of hydraulic retention time can raise the removal efficiency of contaminants. However, the COD removal efficiency reached a peak value when a certain HRT has employed, and the efficiency would not increase no matter how long the HRT was. This study has shown that the potential of the electrical coagulation system on photoprocessing wastewater treatment. |
