This article discusses the nursing-care experience on a patient with recurrent laryngeal cancer receiving multiple surgeries. From 3/17/2013–5/10/2013, the author interacted with the patient through caring, observing, listening, and discussing. The case was analyzed in physiological, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects in order to identify health problems in the following aspects: Malnutrition, related to poor appetite and diarrhea; Desperation, caused by progression of the illness; and Health-seeking behavior, concerning independent home care. The above problems were addressed through interactions by listening, caring, and establishing a therapeutic relationship. Malnutrition correction, education in home care, and guidance toward a positive attitude were achieved according to individual specific needs. It is hoped that this nursing care experience might serve as a reference for future nursing members with similar cases. |
