George Stubbs (1724-1806) was the leading 'horse painter' in the eighteenth century England. His observation of the natural objects, which was both on the organic operation and the physical representations, and his pursuance of both the tradition of horse portrait and the conversation portrait prompted him to record lives ofthe aristocracy and newly emerging class at that time. This research is focused on the content and style of George Stubbs's horse painting, especially with the context of art history. There are three respects in discussion: first, affiliate the source of his horse images; second, survey his aesthetic performance of preserving the natural characteristics of the individuals; third, understand the content and resonance ofthe lion and horse's theme. |
