This research wants to explore the role identifications as musicians of college music majors. Symbolic interactionism is adopted as the theoretical perspective of this qualitative research. Individual in-depth interview, questionnaire, and field notes are data collection forms. Factors that influence musicians' role identifications are personality, relationship with music, learning, extracurricular activities, definition of ideal musician, parents, teachers, peers and learning environment. Besides the positivity and aggressiveness, internalization and self-determination, and multiplicity among the factors which are interactive, the changing process of deepening and expanding is also related to the positive musicians' role identification. |
