Journey to the West is a classical Chinese folk novel adopted, created from the legends around a Buddhist monk Xuánzàng's pilgrimage to India during the Táng dynasty in order to obtain Buddhist religious texts called sutras. The 81 difficulties Xuánzàng and his protectors encountered represented difficulties and challenges people will have to overcome when purchasing their dreams. Only through the challenges can we reach our goal. Adolescence is an important time for teenagers to adjust, integrate and form their personality and character. It is also an important stage before they enter the society. At this time, one of the emotional quotient teenagers need to develop is learning how to deal with their failures and overcome difficulties in front of them. This research focuses on the conflicts and failures in interpersonal relationship. Journey to the West is used as the teaching material in the class and a course for college students is developed around this novel and emotional intelligence issues in it. The course is conducted by 1. bibliotherapy for theme discussion; 2. integrating knowledge, emotion and intention through re-examining our experiences. This research shows that students have some improvements in understanding, analyzing and enduring their emotions. |
