Cultural values would impact parenting and then the children’s developments are verified by literatures, researches also show that values of child rearing would have impacts on parenting. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to develop a short form of parenting concepts scale to measure the parenting of Taiwan parents. Two concepts are included in the scale: traditional parenting concepts and value of child-rearing. Scale is developed by the researchers using the 1620 parents from TBCS pilot study as subjects to conduct the validity and reliability tests. Results shows that Cronback’s α for the traditional parenting part is 0.708, mounts to 53.6% explained validity. Cronbach’sα is 0.798, 62.8% explained validity for the value of child-rearing part. There are 4 items for each part of the scale; it takes either parent 1-2 minutes to fill up the 8-item scale. It can be combined as one scale, or be used separately as two for each part, easy to be applied in large-scaled survey. |
