On the 8th of December 2010, Ministers at the 7th MCEECDYA Conference unprecedentedly endorsed the content of the Australian Curriculum in a historic decision. For over 100 years, each state has its own educational system and the Australian constitution specified that state authorities had the independent right over their school curricula, so the developmental process of the National curriculum has raised many questions. Recently, the commitment to develop a national curriculum reflects the willingness of Australians to work together, across geographic and school sector boundaries, to develop the world class curriculum for all young Australians. This decision is in contrast to Taiwan, especially the strong international trend towards federalism and the decentralization of power. For this reason, the investigator firstly described the critical stage of centralized curriculum development and its rationale; then explored its highlight and analyzes its characteristics. The implications for education in Taiwan were proposed in the end. |
