Incorporating Design Value into Government Administration

Moving into the 21st century, Taiwan has been facing massive changes in many facets. Especially for the lifting of Taiwan core competence, a “Challenging 2008: National grand program” is on its way of action. In this grand project, culture and creativity are the major resource for adding value to both economic and cultural activities. Among them, design, for sure, plays the most significant role of making all the beautiful dreams come true. Although, in the past two decades, lots of efforts have been put into the improvement of design capabilities, the power of design has not yet employed to all possible aspects of concern. Especially, due to the lack of budget, there are no design personnel responsible for the design affairs both inside and outside of government administrations. Another emergent issue is to allocate sufficient funding in constructing infrastructure for design development. The government sector probably is the best place to grow design and to demonstrate the power of design to the public.
