The interpretative case study has become one of the most important qualitative research methods in the management study field. However, very few studies in Taiwan have yet applied this methodology in current organizational and general management research. The reasons such methodology of interpretative case study has not yet been utilized widely were probably because of the tedious fieldwork for data collection, complex data analysis process and theoretical reasoning, and the difficulty of knowledge documentation and learning. By anchoring on a longitudinal case study on cross border technology adoption in the taxi industries of Singapore and Taipei, this paper addresses philosophical and theoretical issues concerning the nature of interpretative case studies, and demonstrates methodological tools which facilitates fieldwork and analyzes data in the interpretative case research. The study aims to provide a useful reference point for researchers who wish to adopt interpretative case studies, and more generally, to encourage thorough work on the conceptualization and execution of case studies in order to make the invisible visible. |
