Many causes could cause distressed symptom of abdominal distension. To offer appropriate nursing interventions to relieve abdominal distension, nurses should identify its etiology through symptom assessment. We reviewed literature regarding etiology, symptom assessment, and management of abdominal distension. We established an algorithm of assesment and management of abdominal distension. We expect that such information will be a reference for clinicians, and it could improve the quality of care on abdominal distension. |
