With the rapid advances in regenerative medicine worldwide, cell therapy technology has gradually matured and generated new treatment methods for conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and skin repair. In Taiwan, the Joint Commission of Taiwan has been promoting and organizing clinic cell therapy quality certification since 2021, assisting the government in improving the quality of cell therapy to ensure patient safety and enhance the quality of clinic medical services.
This study analyzed the performance and feedback of 13 clinics participating in a Cell Therapy Clinic Quality Certification project in 2021, and the findings are expected to be of reference value to clinics intending to commit themselves to the certification. The results indicated that clinics must improve their staff training plans, equipment management, medical record management, and first aid processes. Clinics are advised to improve staff alertness and awareness of relevant risks by organizing periodic case discussions and reviewing items required for the certification. The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Joint Commission of Taiwan are advised to retain the certification system, thereby safeguarding the public’s medical safety. Moreover, competent health authorities are advised to actively advocate the importance of selecting medical institutions with government-approved certificates to ensure patient safety.
