The COVID-19 pandemic has expedited the digital transformation of industries around the world, including the healthcare industry. Taiwan’s new draft regulations for production and management of electronic medical records have been announced and may be implemented after official enactment by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The aforementioned regulations allow medical institutions to use cloud resources to manage electronic medical records and stipulate clear provisions on electronicization of documents, such as consent forms; this will bring Taiwan’s development of electronic medical records into a new era. This year (2022) marks the first year that telemedicine is covered by the National Health Insurance. During the Level 3 alert imposed in response to local transmission, teleconsultation was made available to the general public. The pandemic has accelerated the development of telemedicine worldwide. Deepening of digital transformation renders information security and data governance crucial topics.
