This article described the nursing experience of caring a 30-year-old foreign woman who underwent extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for severe complicated influenza. The nursing period was from August 10th to August 26th, 2019. Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns were used for overall assessment. The identified health problems included impaired gas exchange, risk of injury-bleeding, and anxiety. As a result of interprofessional practice to maintain normal operation of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation to avoid complications, the patient successfully wean off. In addition, the author used appropriate resources and auxiliary tools to overcome communication difficulties, developed a good nursing relationship, and provided individual nursing care to reduce her anxiety. The patient fully recovered and was finally discharged. This successful experience could serve as an example to assist patients with severe complicated influenza who come from different countries and cultures. |
