1956~1970 was the peak period of popularity of Taiwanese movies. During its heyday, 2.5 works were produced every week, and nearly 120 works were produced annually. Many well-known Taiwanese comedy film actors are also popular radio personalities and record comedy LPs. There have been considerable achievements in the research on Taiwanese films, but due to preservation limitations, less than one-fifth of the total number of works (about 200) can be reproduced and seen at present; the content of radio stations that can be preserved is even rarer. In comparison, there are currently about 300 complete comedy records available on vinyl, most of which were recorded in the same period by comedians in Taiwanese films or radio stations at the time. They preserve the most original sounds or written records (cover, back cover, record label), and are important materials for observing the overall picture of comedy performances at the time. The author has compiled more than 50 gold-coated comedy works from a collection of more than 260 comedy records. This article analyzes the characteristics of 14 comedy works starring Jin Tu. The research results show that Jin Tu's comedy works have four characteristics: 1. The lyrics mostly use traditional tunes, seven-character songs, four-line couplets, etc.; 2. The content is heavily interspersed with Japanese; 3. Pang Lingling is the main partner; and 4. The performance styles are influenced by Li Zansheng, Ou Yunlong, and Aizaicai. In works where he co-stars with other male actors, Kim Tu-do plays the second male role and is able to match the style of the main male role, making the work rich and diverse. In the works starring Jin Tu, Jin Tu is good at performing the content of the traditional rap seven-character four-line couplet. Because of his background of education in Japan, his fluent Japanese and Taiwanese mixed content has become another major feature of his personal comedy performances. |
