Over the years, most industrial facilities have undergone various changes and modification which has increase its complexity to a stage where the general assembly and isometric drawings are out of date and do not reflect the actual state of the facility. Traditionally, series of site visits and drawings which are expensive and time consuming will be required to accurately capture the as built configuration of these facilities to update all the drawings. 3D Laser Scanning is a relatively new revolutionary survey technique that provides the most cost effective solution for piping data acquisition within shortest practical time frame with high level of accuracy and detail providing a wide range of possibilities for data analysis and usage. The survey yields digital data sets, which are basically dense“point clouds”that can be registered and geo-reference to the real coordinate system for subsequent data analysis and intelligent modeling. This paper aims to illustrate the application of 3D laser scanning in the oil and gas industry to produce intelligent 3D models and P&ID and 3D panoramic image view“Truview”. |
