This article describs a newly naturalized weed: Alternanthera pungens Kunth (Amaranthaceae) in Taiwan. It is distinguished from other known Alternanthera spp. in Taiwan by apical parts of bracts, bracteoles, and four perianths long-spiny. Color photos and line-drawing of Alternanthera pungens Kunth are provided to facilitate identification.
