This case report describes a 62-year-old woman diagnosed with adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) suffered from cutaneous plaques and nodules for several years. The lesions presented as red papule, plaques and nodules accompanied by itching and pain. Due to limited improvement after steroid and phototherapy, the patient sought traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for alternative management. After continuous use of Chinese herbal medicine, the skin lesions showed significant improvement, indicating the effectiveness of TCM treatment. From the perspective of TCM, lymphoma is believed to be associated with phlegm accumulation, blood stasis, and toxic heat. According to syndrome differentiation, the patient was diagnosed with internal accumulation of toxic heat, blood heat, and wind-dryness. Therefore, the treatment focused on clearing heat and detoxifying, cooling the blood, and dispelling wind. The selected formula included Da Qing Ye (Isatis leaf), Huang Lian Jie Du Tang (Coptis Detoxification Decoction), Jin Yin Hua (honeysuckle), and Pu Gong Ying (dandelion) for detoxifying and reducing internal heat, combined with Bai Xian Pi (Dictamnus bark) and Shui Niu Jiao (water buffalo horn) to dispel wind and cool the blood. After six months of treatment, the patient achieved significant improvement. Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) presents with various clinical symptoms and organ involvement depending on the stage of the disease. In addition to lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, and pulmonary infiltration, patients with cutaneous lesions are often treated with steroids or phototherapy. Currently, there is limited literature discussing the application of TCM in the treatment of ATLL. This case report also summarizes the antitumor mechanisms and clinical applications of Da Qing Ye. |
