Facing the trend and development of multiculturalism and societal changes, healthcare providers must acknowledge and address the diverse cultural backgrounds of patients, while medical educators bear the responsibility of cultivating culturally competent healthcare professionals to meet the needs of diverse patient populations. Although cultural competence has been incorporated into medical school curricula, its critical multicultural implications remain insufficiently developed. As the multicultural perspective of medical humanities education in Taiwan is still in its nascent stages, this paper explores critical multicultural literature within Taiwan’s medical education and draws insights from the development of multicultural medical education abroad, emphasizing ''criticality'' and ''critical theory''. The goal of multicultural competence curriculum design is to foster medical students' reflective and critical thinking skills, enabling them to reconstruct their values and worldviews. By integrating diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, (DEIB) principles into medical education, this approach has become a pivotal focus in healthcare education. Ultimately, this paper aims to provide direction for the development and design of Taiwan's multicultural competence curriculum in medical education.(J Med Health. 2025;14(3):1-10) |
