Clinical observations revealed that the management of the breast milk bank (BMK) was ineffective, leading to breast milk waste, complaints from family members, and strained relationships between patients and nurses—ultimately affecting staff motivation to improve efficiency. A survey identified key issues, including the absence of standardized breast milk transfer procedures, inadequate space planning, and insufficient training. As a result, the overall accuracy of BMK management was only 73.6%. To address these problems, the project team developed BMK operation manuals, organized staff education and training, established standardized transfer procedures, customized storage boxes for freezing, designed labeled storage bags and memos, and implemented a system for quality breast milk collection. These interventions led to significant improvements: the completeness rate of breast milk storage increased from 73.6% to 95.1%, the accuracy of information handling rose from 62.9% to 94.3%, and the time required for initial processing dropped from 158 seconds to just 15 seconds. These outcomes greatly enhanced nurses’efficiency in managing the BMK and ensured a higher standard of care. |
