Stem Cell Therapy in Stroke

依據衛生福利部國民健康署統計顯示，腦血管疾病為國人十大死因之一，排名第2至第4位(1)。腦中風會產生對患者不同程度的神經功能障礙，影響認知、行動能力等，所造成的失能情況影響對於患者及照顧者在日常生活功能或職業功能上都造成不同程度的壓力。缺血性腦中風的臨床治療上，口服藥物、注射血栓溶解劑、經動脈取栓術皆著重在恢復腦部灌流，減少梗塞壞死的腦區；但對於如何使患者喪失的神經功能恢復，目前仍在尋找新興的治療方式。幹細胞治療為國內外的研究目標，期待可增加腦中風患者的神經學預後，成為腦中風治療的重大突破。

Stroke is the one of the common neurological diseases. There are different types of strokes such as ischemic or hemorrhage strokes. Ischemic and hemorrhage strokes have different causes and effects in patients, both potentially leading patients disability or death. Most patients and caregivers have stress because of disabilities caused by strokes. The life change includes daily care, occupation, and economy. Stoke treatment in clinics focuses on medication and neurological surgery, often combined with rehabilitation or Chinese medication. In light of recent advances in stem cell therapy, with pre-clinical references and clinical trials, we can see future prospects for stem cell therapy in treating stokes.
