This study focuses on the experiences of a young girl from Penghu, a remote island, and uses qualitative research methods, specifically self-narration, as a way to understand her life journey in the context of table tennis. This paper tells the story of her struggles and joys on the path to becoming a national table tennis player. She began learning table tennis in the first grade and left her hometown in Penghu to pursue her dream in Taiwan. She faced numerous setbacks, including injuries before important competitions, which led her to contemplate giving up on her dream. However, she persevered and continued her journey towards becoming a national table tennis player. In her freshman year of college, she achieved her dream of becoming a national table tennis player. During her college years, she not only continued to train diligently but also acquired a wealth of sports-related knowledge. She pursued further education in postgraduate study and had the opportunity to train abroad and represent her country in international competitions as a national team member. Currently, she is a formal player sponsored by the Taiwan Cooperative Bank due to her national team status. In conclusion, two main points are drawn from this reflection: first, becoming a national table tennis player is not only a title but also a realization of the protagonist’s own self-fulfillment needs. Second, the author's career plan is to continue striving as an active player and, after retirement, to further develop her career in the field of table tennis as a coach. |
