This study aims to investigate the academic development status and thematic trends in international sports management by using bibliometric analysis as a research method. The analysis was conducted by using the R software package developed by Aria and Cuccurullo in 2017, with data sourced from Web of Science (WoS). The study focused on three internationally renowned sports management journals: Journal of Sport Management, Sport Management Review, and European Sport Management Quarterly, covering publications from 2011 to September 2023. The research findings revealed that the peak in the number of publications over the years was 153 in 2020. The top three authors by publication were Funk, Wicker, and Breuer. The top five highly cited themes in the literature included topics such as the development of sports and social media, sports development, and sustainability in sports events. The thematic strategy diagram and cooccurrence analysis were used to depict thematic development trends and their relationships, presenting popular trends including sports events, community sports, consumer behavior, and social media. It is suggested that future scholars in sport management in Taiwan may refer to this study, such as competitive balance, social media, and abuse, for in-depth exploration. Furthermore, it is recommended that they align with the domestic development status and international trends in the field of sports, to promote academic integration between Taiwan and the international community. |
