Implementing correct environmental disinfection is crucial for ensuring patient safety in medical settings. Incomplete cleaning and disinfection increases the risk of infection, which motivated this project to make improvements. To understand the cleaning staff's implementation of ward environment cleanup, we used an observation checklist and conducted in-depth interviews, finding that the correct rate of implementation was only 63.5%. The reasons identified included misunderstandings regarding the measuring scale for bleach solution, poorly marked measuring cups, lack of policy communication, and inadequate quantification of inspection tools. From July 1st to October 10th, 2020, the project team initiated several measures: 1. Replaced the hospital-wide bleach measuring cup markings. 2. Publicized and posted the ten steps for ward environment disinfection. 3. Held improvement publicity meetings. 4. Posted bulletin boards on environmental management. 5. Promoted the correct use of cleaning tools. These measures aimed to enable cleaning staff to accurately perform environmental cleaning and disinfection steps, thereby improving the accuracy rate. After implementation, the accuracy rate of environmental cleaning by staff increased from 63.5% to 87.5%. This improvement demonstrates that providing real-time monitoring and feedback through quantitative data can ensure a safe and hygienic environment, protecting the health of staff, patients, and their families. This approach is expected to be extended to all medical institutions in Taiwan to improve the quality of the medical environment. |
