Older cancer patients often grapple with chronic diseases and the complexities of managing multiple medications. The side effects associated with cancer treatment can further exacerbate frailty in this vulnerable population. This article aims to delve into the concept of frailty in older cancer patients, examining its definition, underlying mechanisms, causes, evaluation tools, medical interventions, and nursing care strategies. To assess frailty comprehensively, multidimensional instruments are employed, notably Fried’s Frailty Phenotype (FFP) and the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA). For more focused evaluations, single-dimensional tools are utilized, including objective assessments like the Groningen Frailty Indicator (GFI) and subjective measures such as the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) and the G8 Questionnaire. This exploration serves as a resource for clinical practitioners, offering guidance on assessing frailty in older cancer patients and informing nursing management practices. |
