The number of Taiwanese travelling overseas began to exceed 10 million in 2012, which shows that the proportion of Taiwanese engaging in foreign travel activities is increasing year by year. The Taiwanese people realize that leisure travel is one of the best ways to release long-term work pressure in the face of daily work pressure. The peak season for overseas travel in Taiwan is during the summer and winter vacations. In addition to those Taiwanese people for family travel to coincide with children's vacations, teachers, who have regular summer and winter vacations, are also an important group of overseas travelers. Teachers, by virtue of their job, are better able to find travel information and have more autonomy in spending their time, which makes them a suitable group to participate in self-guided trips. Therefore, this study examined the travel motivations, travel barriers, and preference types of junior high school teachers for overseas self-guided trips. The empirical results showed that the sample had a high level of experience and intention to participate in travel, and their favorite destination countries were Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea, all of which belong to the Asian region and are the most frequently visited countries by Taiwanese. Nowadays, 110 countries in the world grant visa-free access to Taiwanese, coupled with the rise of low-cost airlines and the development of Internet data search, all of which have made self-guided trips to foreign countries easier, so that people can achieve a temporary relief of work pressure, and broaden their horizons. It was found that for the travel preference types, in-depth knowledge travel was the most preferred, while the vacation enjoyment travel was the least preferred, which is in line with the work of teachers in junior high schools, who emphasize on opportunities for learning from the process of travel. Overall, the highest motivation for traveling was to escape and relax, so it can be seen that stress relief was the main choice of motivation for traveling abroad, followed by cultural experience and learning. The research findings of this study can be used as a reference for the handling of self-guided tours abroad in the future. |
