The development of localized assessment tools for young carers has practical significance and importance. The focus of this study is on developing and validating the localized“Young Carer Care Work Assessment Scale”and“Young Carer Caregiving Appraisal Scale”. The aim is to help our understanding of the types of care work, the amount of care work, and the appraisal of caregiving performed by young carers in Taiwan. This study formed a preliminary version of the scale based on the results of the focus group and pretests. Subsequently, a total of 888 valid questionnaires were collected and divided into two independent samples: an analysis group and a control group. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were used for the scales’development and validation of the scales. The research findings reveal that the“Young Carer Care Work Assessment Scale”in Taiwan comprises five factors:“personalized care”,“emotional support”,“sibling care”,“housework”, and“household management”. The“Young Carer Caregiving Appraisal Scale”in Taiwan comprises five factors:“Care Satisfaction”,“Care Burden”,“Impact of Care on Academics”,“Sense of Control in Care”, and“Impact of Care on Life”. Both scales demonstrate good internal consistency, criterion-related validity, and discriminative validity, which will aid in conducting larger-scale surveys and gathering relevant information in the future about young carers. |
