This study sought to explore whether the Champions Education Association’s emotional regulation course could favorably impact the emotional intelligence of seventh graders. A quasi-experimental research design of unequal groups was adopted, and seventh graders from a middle school in Taichung City participated in this study. Experimental group 1 participated in five 40-minute emotional regulation classes. Experimental group 2 participated in 10 40-minute emotional regulation classes. The control group did not participate in any emotional regulation classes. Along with analysis of the qualitative data, the Adolescent Emotional Intelligence Scale was used for quantitative pre- and post-test analysis. The results of this study showed that the difference in emotional intelligence between experimental group 1, experimental group 2, and the control group reached a level of significance after participating in the emotional regulation classes. According to the results of qualitative analysis, students in the experimental group reported that participating in the Champions Education Association emotional regulation classes helped improve various aspects of emotional ability. The above results show that the Champions Education Association emotional regulation classes may improve the emotional intelligence of seventh graders, and these classes may therefore be suitable for implementation and promotion in middle schools. Specific recommendations were made for teachers, emotional regulation curriculum researchers, and relevant educational units. |
