This paper outlines the nursing care experience of a hospitalized prisoner undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). Since the patient had not fulfilled his responsibilities as a father and faced the upcoming coronary artery bypass surgery without social and economic support, he felt anxious and worried. Gordon’s 11 functional health patterns assessment was applied between February 21 to March 10, 2020. The nursing diagnoses identified were anxiety, acute pain and ineffective role performance. Throughout the nursing process, the author provided nursing care through active listening, companionship, and a nurturing nurse-patient relationship. Media education materials were used to enhance the patient’s knowledge of the surgery process. Meditation and relaxing music were also provided to alleviate pain sensation. Collaborative efforts from the medical team i provided the prisoner’s family with support program to alleviate social and financial stress. This nursing care experience could serve as a reference for clinical nurses caring for similar contextin the future. |
