Gastric type mucinous endocervical adenocarcinomas of the uterine cervix (GAC) are a subtype of mucinous adenocarcinoma of the cervix. Compared to the usual type of endocervical adenocarcinoma, GACs are more aggressive and display unusual patterns of metastasis. When diagnosed, gastric type mucinous adenocarcinomas are often already in stages III or IV. Even in stage I, they have a poorer survival rate and a higher risk of recurrence. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that GACs are mostly unrelated to human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, and immunohistochemical staining for p16 often shows a negative reaction. Hence, we present a case study and literature review of gastric type mucinous endocervical adenocarcinoma. |
