Leaders are the helms of organizations, and their decisions and behavior affect the interests of employees and stakeholders within the organizations. Leaders are compelled to lead by example and guide their organizations in the right direction with integrity and sincerity. Authentic leaders value their self-beliefs and values, act in consistency with their words, and communicate with their subordinates with their true thoughts. Thus, they influence the beliefs of their subordinates and inspire their willingness to trust and follow them, benefitting the organizations and all their individual members. In this study, 19 academic journals and master’s and doctoral dissertations on authentic leadership in Taiwan from 2013 to 2022 were compiled for an integrated analysis (Rosenthal, 1991). The results indicated that authentic leadership is positively associated with several variables, namely job satisfaction (effect size = .528), job performance (effect size = .285), psychological capital (effect size = .450), trust (effect size = .749), organizational citizenship behavior (effect size = .431), and sense of identity (effect size = .466). Management implications and suggestions for future studies are presented according to the analysis results. |
