The aging population and diabetes are major public health problem in many countries, as well as in Taiwan. In recent years, there is evidence that older adults with diabetes often suffer from sarcopenia that gradual loss of muscle mass, strength, and mobility, can significantly impact their quality of life. We should pay much attention to care such elderly diabetic patients with sarcopenia who have more functional impairments. This article discusses the relationship of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and sarcopenia, and recommends early screening for sarcopenia and risk factors in patients with T2DM. Through appropriate therapeutic approaches including nutrional and exercise intervention to prevent and treat associated sarcopenia in T2DM patients. |
