The objective of this study is to describe a personal tendency of one-stage bilateral thoracoscopic pulmonary resections in treating various bilateral lung diseases. Between May 2016 and December 2021, a total of 489 patients underwent thoracoscopic pulmonary resections for various lung diseases. Of them, 80 (16.4%) patients with bilateral lung lesions underwent one-stage bilateral thoracoscopic pulmonary resections. These bilateral lung diseases were categorized as bilateral lung cancer (n = 20), bilateral bronchiectasis (n = 17), one-side malignancy and otherside benign lesion (n = 14), bilateral benign lesions (n = 12), bilateral metastatic nodules (n = 9), and bilateral lung bullae (n = 8). The female patients were greater in number (61.3%). However, bilateral bullae commonly occurred in male patients. In these 80 patients, their average age was 64 (17 up to 86). The average operating time was 236.5 minutes, ranging from 72 to 490 minutes. The average postoperative hospital stay was 5.98 days, which was not significantly longer than one-sided thoracoscopic lung surgery (5.98 days vs 5.21 days, P = 0.125). There was no surgical morbidity or operative death. In conclusion, one-stage bilateral thoracoscopic pulmonary resections could be a tendency in the treatment of various bilateral lung diseases. |
